Teaching and Technology

Teaching the Word with today's tools

8 lessons

Paul wrote on parchment, the Reformers on sheets of paper, the great preachers of the past filled notebooks and envelopes of clippings. Today, on a few inches of screen, we have Bibles in many languages, concordances, dictionaries and commentaries. We have everything they lacked. But sometimes we lack what they had: time for prayer, perseverance in study, consecration.

This course is designed for anyone who teaches the Bible, in church, in a study group, in Sunday school or online, and wants to use technology without being used by it.

In the first module you will lay down the principles: the medium is neither good nor bad; what matters is how we use it. You will learn to choose digital resources for study and to build an orderly archive of your studies.

In the second module you will discover why images help people learn and how to design a presentation that supports your voice instead of replacing it.

In the third module you will reflect on the church in the digital age: communication, evangelism, privacy, real fellowship.

The BereaWay Method applies here too: receive what is good in our time, examine everything in the light of Scripture, and connect the tools to the purpose that matters: making Christ known.

What you will learn

  • Evaluate technology in the light of the biblical principle "prove all things; hold fast that which is good"
  • Use digital resources for Bible study and organise a personal archive of studies and illustrations
  • Design and deliver clear, simple and effective slides for teaching
  • Recognise the opportunities, limits and ethical responsibilities of the church in the digital age
