Church History
Two thousand years of the Church: faithfulness, failures and revivals
The Church was not born yesterday. Before us there were martyrs, missionaries, thinkers, reformers and ordinary believers who guarded and handed on the Gospel, sometimes with great faithfulness, sometimes with serious mistakes.
Studying the history of Christianity helps us understand where our churches, our convictions and even our divisions come from. It makes us more humble, because we see how easily people can drift, and more grateful, because we see how God has preserved his Word and his people.
In the first module we will start from “the fulness of the time” (Galatians 4:4) and follow the ancient Church: the sources, the canon, the persecutions, the heresies and the councils. In the second we will travel through the Middle Ages: the papacy, the empire, the schism, the crusades and the first reform movements. In the third we will reach the Protestant Reformation, the revivals, modern missions and the Church of today.
Like the believers in Berea (Acts 17:11), we will read history with an open Bible: to examine every development in the light of Scripture, following the BereaWay Method.
