Biblical and Family Counseling
Walking with people through the Word, listening and care
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). In every church there are people who are suffering, confused, or going through a family crisis. God calls us not to leave them alone.
Biblical counseling is the ministry of walking with a brother or sister through listening, prayer and the Word of God, helping them see their situation in God’s light and take concrete steps forward. It does not replace the doctor, the psychologist or the lawyer: it knows how to work with them and how to recognize when their help is needed.
In the first module we will look at the biblical roots of counseling, its presuppositions, the biblical view of the human person and the different kinds of counseling.
In the second module we will learn to build a helping relationship: welcoming, listening, exploring; and we will look at the qualities and needs of the helper.
In the third module we will face some common struggles: suffering and grief, depression and emotions, sin, guilt and perfectionism.
In the fourth module we will turn to couples and families: marriage as a covenant, conflict and communication, separation and the care of wounded families.
Every lesson follows the BereaWay Method: we receive the Scripture, examine it carefully and connect it to the lives of the people we meet.
